Air Canada to Fly New Boeing on Key Routes

Air Canada will operate its first new Boeing 777 aircraft on key routes serving Europe, Asia and the South Pacific. As the airline begins introduction in April of the first of eight new 777 aircraft to be delivered in 2007, it will immediate place these aircrafts on select Air Canada services to London, Frankfurt and Tokyo.

In addition, effective December 14, Air Canada will introduce daily nonstop service between Vancouver and Sydney, Australia using its new 777 aircraft.

With the introduction of non-stop service to Sydney, the carrier has suspended near-term plans to operate flights to Australia via Los Angeles in view of the lack of necessary authorizations at this time to operate the route.

Antigua’s Galley Bay Completes Upgrades

Upgrades at the 69-room, all-inclusive Galley Bay beachfront resort on Antigua include the expanded Teepee Bar, six new thatched cottages for intimate dining at the Gaugin restaurant, a redesigned entryway and a new couples massage room.

Barcelo Maya Palace Hotel Set to Open by the End of 2007

Barcelo Hotels & Resorts announced the addition of a fifth luxury hotel at its upscale all-inclusive Barcelo Maya Beach Resort in Mexico. The newest addition at the Resort, the Barcelo Maya Palace Hotel, will open at the end of 2007 and will be an all-suite property with 756 junior guest suites.

DAY 3: Sydney Ecotour to the Blue Mountains - B, LToday’s full day Ecotour travels westwards across the coastal plain to the Great Dividing Range and the Blue Mountains National Park to unlock a piece of Australia many don’t know exists. Visit ancient Aboriginal sites and outstanding lookouts, see magnificent rock formations and unusual plants and wildlife. Look over the magnificent Jamieson Valley and the Three Sisters. Lunch is at Lilianfels Country House Hotel. Before returning to Sydney drop into a hidden valley to seek out the many kangaroos that graze in the wild (conditions permitting). DAY 4: Sydney - Ayers Rock with Dinner in the Desert – B, DFly Sydney to Ayers Rock, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Tonight enjoy a "Sounds of Silence" dinner in the desert. As the sun dips behind the many domes of Kata Tjuta, enjoy fine Australian beverages and delicious outback canapés, while listening to the haunting sounds of the didgeridoo. After dinner the lanterns will be dimmed and perhaps for the first time, hear the sounds of the great Outback. Wind gently rustling through the desert oaks, the chipping of a bat, the haunting howls of dingoes (wild dog) in the distance or - just the sounds of silence. DAY 5: Ayers Rock - The Mystery of Uluru and Kata Tjuta - BIt is an early morning start to view the magnificent colours of Ayers Rock at sunrise. With a circumference of 8 kilometres, the Rock is sacred to the local aboriginal tribes, and during a walk around the base with your Aboriginal guide, see hallowed sites and view paintings of ancient Aboriginal tribal myths before returning to the hotel. This afternoon drive into the desert to visit the “Olgas”, a series of massive, vividly coloured domed rocks rising from the plains. Enjoy a walk through one of the many valleys and learn a little about the unique desert flora and fauna of Central Australia. Continue onto "Sunset Strip" to see the sun setting on magical Ayers Rock. Drink a toast the beauty of the desert and the "Rock" as the colours change from reds to oranges to pinks. Return to the hotel. Overnight: Sails in the Desert

DAY 6: Ayers Rock – Darwin and the wetlands of Kakadu – BFly Ayers Rock to Darwin. Meet your guide on arrival and climb aboard the 4x4 to head down “The Track” to the town of Humpty Doo. The first stop is Fogg Dam and the surrounding wetlands to see the many water birds that congregate in the dry season. Then travel across the Marrakai Plains past the Mary and Adelaide Rivers and across the Jabiluka floodplains to Ubirr to view the Aboriginal rock art that spans 23,000 years of seasonal occupation. The view from the top of the rock provides a magnificent panorama of the surrounding area. Overnight: Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn

DAY 7: Kakadu - Rainforest, waterfalls and rock formations – B, LTravel south through the South Alligator Valley to the less visited section of the World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park known as the stone country. Visit the gorgeous Gunlom Falls and perhaps hike to the top of the waterfalls to explore the beautiful rock pools. They offer spectacular views of the Arnhem Escarpment. After a picnic lunch walk through the surrounding monsoon rainforest before returning to the hotel. Overnight: Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn

DAY 8: Kakadu – Darwin, Lagoon Cruise and Aboriginal rock art – B, LBegin the day with a private early morning cruise on the famous Yellow Water wetlands and see the area’s myriad bird life and the awesome saltwater crocodile. After breakfast at the hotel visit the nearby Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre for an insight into the lifestyle and culture of the traditional owners of the park. Continue on to Nourlangie Rock to see ancient Aboriginal Rock paintings depicting mythological stories of the “Dreamtime”. After lunch return to Darwin stopping at the Mamukala wetlands, an important nesting place for the pied goose, then across the floodplains of the South Alligator River arriving in Darwin in the early evening. DAY 9: Darwin - Palm Cove, Massage or spa in the tropics- BFly Darwin to Cairns. On arrival into Cairns you will be met and transferred to your accommodation where your room will be available for immediate occupancy. Enjoy a special spa or massage treatment this evening. DAY 10: Palm Cove and the Great Barrier Reef – B, LThis morning transfer to Port Douglas and board "Quicksilver" for a cruise to Agincourt Reef lying within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and the World Heritage area. It is the only ribbon reef on the very outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef to be visited by a day cruise. Romantic Planet Vacations attended the CHA Marketplace in Aruba this January. The CHA Marketplace provides the opportunity to meet various hoteliers and other travel companies located in the Caribbean and Mayan Riviera, and learn about their product and services.

Blue Lagoon Cruises first to refund VAT payments

Following the Fijian government’s decision today (03 January 2007) to withdraw the additional 2.5 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) introduced last November, Blue Lagoon Cruises has announced it will refund all monies to passengers previously charged at the increased tax level.

This applies to all bookings made from 07 November 2006 with travel taking place from 01 January 2007.

The boutique island cruising specialist is the first Fiji property to announce its decision to refund those passengers originally affected by the VAT hike. FIJI UPDATE

Dear Valued Travel Agents and Clients;

We have recently received this letter from one of our partners in Fiji:

Dear Partners;

This is intended as an update and reassurance on recent political events within Fiji.
Essentially the President has dissolved Parliament and the army are in interim control of the country. The army say they will appoint civilian managers for Government ministries and hold free elections when practicable. The background is complex but involves lengthy unresolved disputes between the Government and Military over certain contentious proposed legislation.
The actions leading to the President dissolving Parliament today have been well telegraphed and largely anticipated. Throughout the process all parties have been very careful to ensure minimum disruption to the country and the safety and security of citizens and tourists.

So we appear to have a rather soft coup.

Naturally, this is a difficult and uncertain time for the citizens of Fiji. International relations and the Fiji economy are both likely to suffer some damage. Domestically there are strongly held views both for and against the Army’s action.

However, our visitors should know that there are no private firearms in Fiji, there have been no demonstrations in the streets, all services such as power, water, and transport are operating normally, and there are no curfew or travel restrictions.

Today Fiji is as safe and friendly as it has always been, and the tourists visiting from all parts of the world are enjoying Fiji, as they always have.

If the situation should ever change for the worse we would advise you and would never knowingly risk the safety of any visitors.

In addition, to our knowledge, there have not been any travel advisories issued for Fiji to date, so we will be continuing our efforts to promote and sell Fiji as a romantic destination to you and your clients.
